Two vulnerabilities, collectively referred to as “Dirty Frag,” have been discovered in the Linux kernel networking subsystem. An attacker with local account access could exploit these flaws to escalate privileges and obtain root-level access, potentially gaining full administrative control of the system.

Xint Code disclosed CVE-2026-31431, an authentication scratch-write vulnerability that chains AF_ALG and splice() to achieve a 4-byte page cache overwrite. A compact 732-byte proof-of-concept exploit enables privilege escalation to root on Ubuntu, Amazon Linux, RHEL, and SUSE systems.
